Cold Pressed Green Juice

Green Juice.JPG

I love juicing and this is one of my go to recipes! If you are looking for additional recipes and knowledge on juicing I highly recommend this book, HERE. For our family juicing is a great way to get extra veggies in our daily diet. Especially for my kiddos, it is very difficult to get them to eat the amount of vegetables they should be consuming each day. Which is why I love when we start the day with a glass of green juice!

We use a masticating juicer that extracts juice by pressing and grinding fruits and vegetables without adding heat. There are some benefits to using this type of juicer over one with a blade. Juice retains more nutrients because the fruits and vegetables aren’t exposed to air and increased oxidation like they are when shredded with a blade. You also get more juice from your produce. Additionally, when using a masticating juicer the juice retains more pulp.  Because of this, cold pressed juices have more fiber and even a little protein.

RECIPE:

  • 2 green apples, cored and sliced

  • 2 carrots

  • 2 celery stalks

  • 5 oz spinach or kale

  • 1/2 lemon

  • 1” ginger, peeled

  • 1” turmeric

Place ingredients into your juicer, beginning with greens, ginger, and turmeric. Serve over ice and enjoy.
